New York: Center of the World, The 2x90

Final installment of the Emmy and Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award-winning series, NEW  YORK: A DOCUMENTARY FILM, that continue the historic chronicle of the city from the Depression to the present day.

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE presents a powerful portrait of the events leading up to and away from the Fall of 2001. To understand the impact of September 11, The Center of the World reaches back more than 50 years, to 1946 when the idea of a “world trade center” was first conceived in New York City. It chronicles the construction of the towers and explores the astonishing expansion of American economic power during the second half of the 20th century. The film explores the physical, economic, and symbolic aftermath of the attack and examines what Americans can learn from the recovery effort about who they are and who they will be.
