C21: PBS Distribution takes the cosmos and WildBear content to Mipcom
Oct 11, 2024
PBS Distribution is bringing a documentary tracing groundbreaking discoveries that have reshaped our understanding of the cosmos to Mipcom this month.
Decoding the Universe (2×60′) is one of numerous docs from PBS’s long-running science strand Nova, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Other Nova titles include Building Stuff (3×60′), which explores how engineers are pushing boundaries, reaching new heights and transforming our world, and What Are UFOs? (1×60′), which examines the evidence for UFOs from all angles.
PBS Distribution’s slate also includes a range of titles from its Australian coproduction partner, WildBear Entertainment.
These include two new seasons of World’s Greatest as well as Myths & Mysteries, Transportation Marvels and Suddenly Royal, which tells the stories of everyday women and men from around the globe who marry into royalty.
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, on January 27, 2025, the company will also present a collection of Holocaust-related content.
The centrepiece of this offering is Playing to Survive: Von Cramm vs Hitler (2×60’/1×90′), a documentary that sheds light on the little-known story of Gottfried von Cramm, a forgotten tennis hero who rose to fame in the 1930s.
Despite his exceptional talent, von Cramm’s career was significantly impacted by the rise of the Nazi regime and the subsequent persecution of Jews and LGBTQ+ people. His refusal to conform to Nazi ideals and his support for his Jewish friends led to a decline in his career and personal life.
