Jewish GIs of WWII
Jewish GIs of WWII tells the powerful and often overlooked story of the 550,000 Jewish men and women who served during World War II.
They fought across every major theatre—held as prisoners of war, decorated for courage and merit, wounded in the thousands, and with 11,000 making the ultimate sacrifice. Alongside them, 10,000 Jewish women enlisted, defying expectations and family warnings that military life was “no place for a nice Jewish girl.”
But their service carried a second, quieter battle: facing antisemitism within the ranks. From slurs to violence, many were forced to continually prove their loyalty and bravery in the face of prejudice.
In serving their country, Jewish Americans helped redefine what citizenship meant—earning belonging through courage, sacrifice, and resilience.
