The Mine Wars
At the dawn of the 20th century, coal was the fuel that powered America. Yet few Americans outside of coal country thought much about the price paid by the men who blasted the black rock from underground mines and hauled it to the surface – men who risked their lives every day for very little income. The biggest civil uprising in United States history, the Mine Wars provided a dramatic stage for the struggle to deliver coal from the deep, dark mine shafts to the surface.
